Speaking from the standpoint of a long career in the private sector, a couple of things.

First, congratulations from getting out from under the systemic abuse you experienced in academia! Yay!

Second, be aware that the forces (largely economic) that have corrupted academia are in full force in the private sector as well, and more nakedly. The upside is that you have already demonstrated the resilience needed to survive a corporate ... let's call it an adjustment.

Thanks for this --and so true! That's part of the story of my first move within the private sector: the first place I landed began going through a spinoff and acquisition and I didn't have the stomach to wait out my fate, so I began looking and made the move to where I am now. But to your point, the reframing from job security to career security inherent in leaving tenure for an industry career is indeed a story of resilience! And thankfully that's a muscle we can all grow.
